What research says about scalp microneedling

Microneedling rolls very fine needles over the skin to create controlled micro-channels. The scalp's natural repair response to these channels — which involves growth factors and signalling pathways linked to the hair cycle — is triggered by the micro-channels themselves, so it doesn't depend on applying any product. Researchers have studied scalp microneedling both on its own and alongside topical hair treatments; a well-known randomised trial (Dhurat et al., Int J Trichology, 2013) reported greater improvement in hair count when microneedling was added to a topical. Used with serums, it also supports their absorption. This is a cosmetic scalp roller for your routine — individual results vary.

Choosing your needle length

Shorter needles are gentler and used more often; longer needles are for experienced users, less frequently. As a guide: 0.25–0.3mm for gentle, serum-absorption days; 0.5mm for light scalp rolling; 1.0mm and above for experienced users, used sparingly and slowly. Never roll over broken, irritated or sunburnt skin.

Safety & hygiene

Disinfect the head with surgical spirit before and after each use, and let it dry.
Patch-test first, and never share your roller with anyone else.
Avoid active breakouts, wounds, sunburn or irritated skin.
Replace the head when it starts to feel blunt.

How to use it

Start with a clean, dry scalp (or clean skin).
Roll gently — a few passes back-and-forth, then side-to-side — using light pressure only.
Apply your chosen serum afterwards (not included).
Frequency depends on needle length: shorter more often, longer sparingly.
